A lot of people just go ahead and buy a parrot training course without considering what is involved for it to actually work.Majority of the time it fails and they blame either the parrot, or you got it,they blame the course. They DO NOT stop to think that it could possibly be them that is the reason why their  feathered friend is still biting, and not singing. Below is a check list find out  if you have what it takes to put your parrot through a training course.

Unfortunately a lot of people do not consider what the involvement is in not only owning a parrot, but how to  stop their bad behavior, and teach them tricks. I could not tell you how many times I have heard people complain about how they wasted their money on parrot training courses and they did not work.

So for that reason I want to go over  necessary requirements from you so that your parrot will graduate from parrot training school.

Firstly are you doing this for your bird,or just for you?

Please think about that question it is very important. Below is a check list for you to see if you have what it takes to teach your feathered friend right from wrong.

Time - Do you have at least 15 minutes every day to spend with our parrot?

Plan – Can you follow a simple step by step plan either by video, or E-book?

Command - Can you think of  a particular command you want to use such as,wave or just use a clicker?

Action – Can you take action and get him to step on your finger and then removing your finger before he gets on.

Patience - Will you have patients with him, will you keep going over the trick till he gets it?

Praise – Can you praise him every time he gets it right, and make a big deal out of it?

Give rewards – Can you reward him with his favorite food when he gets the trick right?

Repeat – Are you happy to repeat the same actions over, and over till he knows the trick really well?

Stop Parrot Biting From Biting You – Basic Views About the Process

So you got yourself a bird pet and you are about to train them when tit began showcasing its wild side by biting you at every chance it gets. Do not panic or even think about returning the bird to the store because there are many things that you can do to tame it and stop parrot from biting you. If the bird that you have acquired is young and it begins to bite or nip people that come close to them, they may be at the stage of bluffing. This is part of the phase that they are going through, and as its owner, you must learn everything that you can about how you can handle the matter.

When your pet seems to attack you, you must not fear them nor punish them for such act. You just have to understand that it is now your responsibility how you can handle it correctly. Aside from protection, your bird may also have some emotional problems or they simply are bothered with their new environment. You have to help them cope and adapt to their new surroundings and people whom they will be living with. Here are some tips on how you can proceed with the process.

1. You must allot time for your pet, to bond with them, train or simply show them that you care. They have to feel an emotional connection and they must see you as their protector rather than as an intruder.

2. During the training hours that you will allot for your pet, you can move their cage to a neutral location. When they no longer feel that they are on their territory, they will be more obliged to cooperate with you and to everything that you ask them to do.

3. You must control your fear when you are handling your bird. You must make them feel like you are not afraid of them and that you can control and protect them. If they suddenly become aggressive and lunge at you or bite you, you must not jerk away in an instant. You must avoid such swift movements because they will also feel nervous and uneasy with you.

4. If you don’t feel safe about handling them because they seem to be vey aggressive, you can protect yourself by having the right tools. You can try wearing protective gloves whenever you want to touch them so that you can do your planned tasks to stop parrot from biting you even if they don’t want to stop from attacking your hand.

African Grey’s are BIG birds.
Also, they WILL scream; no matter what you do..

He probably isn’t afraid of people, he just needs more time to warm up.

Birds need to learn the “step up” command. Put your hand in front of the bird, when it climbs on say step up….do this over and over and the bird will learn to automatically come back onto your hand. Hope this helps

I just got a very little parrot two months ago, but it flies away from me each time i try to touch it, also it tries to bite and that scares me off. Is it because its too young? I don’t think its gonna respond to training because of its age.
I think its an illiger Mini macaw, it has black head and beak, and then green feather and a little yellow underneath the feather with black legs

You don’t mention what species parrot. Some are hands-on birds and others are hands-off.

In two months it should be learning to trust you some, unless you’ve tried too hard to handle it and it doesn’t trust you yet. I’d guess it’s biting out of fear. And you don’t want it living in fear.

Give it time to adjust and get to know you.

Don’t open the door for it to fly away, but sit by its cage and talk to it, read to it.

Calmly attempt to touch it and its feet through the bars of the cage. Let the touching increase gradually.

If the breeder lives close to you, ask the breeder to clip the wings just enough that it can’t fly wildly, but can still glide to the floor if it startles and jumps from its perch or cage. You don’t want it crashing to the floor and breaking a bone.

If it can’t fly, you have more control.

If it’s a hands-on type bird (google the species and find out) patience and determination will get you there. If it’s not a hands-on-type bird, then I’d suggest you swallow your disappointment and allow it to just be.

I had her when she was a baby, and then my aunt had her for about 3 yrs. Now I have the bird again and she bites. This bird has an extreme personality, and shes very smart. She is very loving when you get her away from her safety area (her cage, specificly her bell). I also would like some tips on how to train her on speaking more often, or to learn more words.

well we bought a parrot at a festival its about 9 months maybe a little older at the very most
it is beyond scared of people and anytime we come in the room he fly’s away we are getting his wings clipped within the next month but i was wondering how to train him to atleast step on my finger and shoulder and not bite
is it possible since hes a bit older ?

i have a lovebird, but i have to wash my clothes all the time cause bird shit gets on it way to much.

I have heard of so many different ways to train a parrot not to bite. Mine is just a baby and i want to make sure i nip this problem in the bud. Any suggestions? What I’m currently doing is telling her to go “gentle” and pushing my finger into her mouth, rather than yanking it away.
